SBE is a growing engineering consultancy with several offices in Belgium and a global leader in the engineering design of locks. To further grow our , we are continuously looking for project engineers with experience in the design of lock gates and other hydraulic structures.


Job description

As a senior project engineer – hydraulic structures you will be part of an experienced team of engineering professionals, BIM modellers and a project manager. Your role in the team will entail:

  • Taking the technical lead in complex projects;
  • Assist other engineers during the design process;
  • Performing the engineering design of complex (components of) hydraulic structures like lock gates, dry dock gates, jetties and other structures;
  • Working with advanced software like SCIA Engineer, Plaxis 3D, Ansys, etc.;
  • Reviewing and making calculation notes;
  • Taking responsibility in the correctness of the engineering design;
  • Taking the lead in technical meetings with clients and other stakeholders;
  • Reporting to project managers;
  • Instructing BIM coordinators


Required profile

We are looking for a motived engineer who is passionate about hydraulic engineering. We are happy to welcome experienced engineers with at least 10 years of experience. Furthermore, the perfect candidate should:

  • Have significant experience in the engineering design of hydraulic structures, more specifically locks;
  • Have experience in the technical coaching of a team of engineers;
  • Have an affinity with finite element software like Ansys or Sofistik;
  • Be a great team player;
  • Be a strong communicator, being able to present complex engineering results to clients and other non-technical stakeholders;
  • Be willing to work in Belgium;
  • Be fluent in English and Dutch or French. Knowledge of additional languages would be an asset;
  • Have a bachelor in civil engineering (having a MSc. is a significant plus).
